According to the medical recommendations, the healthy pork consumption rate is about 30 kg per year. Instead, Ukrainians eat half as much, reports the Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders.

During the last week of the summer, the live pig market prices in Ukraine continued to rise, but at a slower rate than on the eve of the holiday weekend. According to the results of weekly monitoring of live pig prices, which is conducted by the Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders, the average market price added 1% to the level of the previous week and amounted to 49.4 UAH/kg.

Recently, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine held an emergency meeting about the ASF situation. The ministry specialists, as well as the State Consumer Service’ and the Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders’ representatives, joined the discussion.

The third decade of August was marked by an increase in Ukrainian pig prices. The analysts of the Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders detect corresponding dynamics in the live pigs market based on the results of weekly price monitoring.

According to the customs statistics of the State Tax Service of Ukraine, during January-July, Ukraine imported 13 600 tons of pork with a total value of 25.7 million USD. This escalates the last year’s mark by 11% or 1.4 thousand tonnes. "If the import activity in July remained at the level of the previous two months, the volume of foreign pork incomes in January-July of the current year would be equal to last year’s," – comment the analysts of the Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders.

In mid-August, prices for the live weight of pig ranged from 46 to 48 UAH/kg. The analytical department of the Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders reports on the price range volatility and a slight fluctuation of the market average (-0.2% below the previous week, at 47.06 UAH/kg).

Although the African Swine Fever (AFS) has been in Ukraine since 2012, at the present moment, only one domestic pig farm is insured against this disease. Why? First of all, because of the requirements for a farm.

According to Focus Taiwan, the Taiwan government has asked all e-commerce enterprises in the country to remove Chinese meat products from their websites, as part of an effort to prevent the spread of African swine fever (ASF) from China to Taiwan, Deputy Minister of the Council of Agriculture Chen Chi-chung said Thursday.
