The training is organised by the Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders as part of the joint project with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), “Strengthening the Resilience of Pig Production in Ukraine”.
Training sessions are planned in Zakarpattia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Khmelnytskyi, Rivne, Cherkasy and Lviv regions. They are intended for users of hunting grounds of all forms of ownership, particularly those where wild boar are permanently present and where hunting or population control activities are carried out.
The programme will combine theoretical training with practical exercises. Participants will learn about approaches to wild boar population management in ASF-affected countries, biosecurity principles and requirements for the infrastructure of hunting grounds.
A key element of the training will be simulations of real-life situations during and after hunting. Participants will practise the sequence of actions from harvesting a wild boar through transportation, sample collection and carcase deboning. Particular attention will be paid to compliance with veterinary and sanitary requirements and minimising the risk of spreading disease-causing agents.
The initiative is expected to reach the largest number of hunting ground users in Ukraine in the past decade.
The series of training sessions will take place as part of the “Strengthening the Resilience of Pig Production in Ukraine” project, implemented by the Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders with financial support from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). The initiative aims to strengthen preparedness for epizootic threats, improve biosecurity and protect Ukraine’s pig sector from ASF.
