The coming months will be particularly challenging for the pig industry in Poland. Polish pig farmers are struggling to make ends meet, says Wiesław Różański, president of the Polish Union of meat industry producers and Employers.

The third training for pig farm specialists implemented by the Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders (AUPB) with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) starts at 27th of June.

The suspension of import duties, quotas and trade defence measures on Ukrainian exports to the European Union – known as the Autonomous Trade Measures (ATMs) – are in place for another year.

According to the State Statistics Service, real GDP in the first quarter of 2023 increased by 2.4% compared to the fourth quarter of 2022, and decreased by 10.5% compared to the first quarter of 2022.

Argentina has doubled its pork production in the last 10 years and in the last 20 years it has increased fivefold.

The answer to this question was found out from Precision Decisions Ltd, a company specializing in the construction of turnkey pig farms. And the economics of pig production were discussed with JW Vittetoe Pork Ltd, which currently keeps more than 15 thousand sows. The meetings were held as part of a study tour organized by the USAID Agricultural and Rural Development Program (AGRO) in partnership with the the Ukrainian Pig Breeders (AUPB).

The FAO meat price index rose in May.

African swine fever has dramatically changed the face of international pork trade over the last five years.

In the occupied Nova Kakhovka, Kherson region, the zoo "Fairy Tale Grove" was completely flooded due to the russians' explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station. Almost all the animals died, only swans and ducks survived. This was reported in the UAnimals community. 

In May, pork imports remained at a low level, according to the Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders.

Participants of the study tour, organized by the USAID Agricultural and Rural Development Program in partnership with the Ukrainian Pig Breeders (AUPB), learned about the economics of contract feeding, farmer support programs and pork market trends during meetings with the Iowa Secretary of Agriculture and the NexGen pig farm.

The Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders (AUPB) in cooperation with the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) is preparing a series of training videos that will demonstrate the best biosecurity practices of leading domestic pig farms.

By September 15, 2023, the EU is gradually lifting the exceptional and temporary safeguard measures adopted on May 2, 2023, on imports of wheat, corn, rapeseed and sunflower seeds from Ukraine under the exceptional safeguards of the Autonomous Trade Measures Regulation.
