November began for live bait market operators with a further strengthening of quotations for slaughter pigs, according to the results of the weekly monitoring of purchase prices by the analytical department of the Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders.

The first auction of the month continued the previous ‘baton’, so live pigs of slaughter conditions were sold this week at 3-5 UAH/kg more expensive. Thus, live pork in early November is mainly purchased at 62-65 UAH/kg. However, in most cases and in all regions, quotes tend to be around 63 UAH/kg, and the average market price was 63.3 UAH/kg, which is 5.3% higher than at the end of October.

A survey of meat processing representatives shows that there is a lack of consistency in the procurement community's assessment of available supply, sales rates and price fluctuations. While some say that supply is sufficient and trade is relatively smooth, others note weaker sales (particularly to deep meat processing companies) and an oversupply of conditioned pork on the market. At the same time, a minority of the surveyed processors predict a decline in prices at the upcoming auction, while the majority are set to stabilise prices or consolidate them at a slightly higher level — around 65 UAH/kg.

The results of the weekly monitoring of purchase prices from processors can be found in this section.

The Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders is a non-profit, voluntary organisation founded by domestic pork producers. The main goals of the association are to represent and protect the rights and interests of the association's farms, promote the development and implementation of new technologies for efficient pork production, expand sales markets, and protect the domestic market.
