Training in the basics of biosafety at pig farms

The best practices of biosecurity of domestic pig farms and training videos, which were filmed by the Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders (AUPB) within the framework of the project ‘’Keeping Pigs Healthy in Ukraine‘’, implemented by the association in cooperation with the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), were presented to the academic staff and students of Dnipro National Agrarian and Economic University.

Oksana Yurchenko, President of the Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders, presented the basic rules of biosafety for pig farms and a video with the best biosafety practices to the students of the second (master's) level of higher education during a guest lecture on ‘Laboratory diagnosis of pig diseases (the importance of biosafety on the farm)’. The event was held on 31 October 2024 for the speciality 211 ‘Veterinary Medicine’ as part of the study of the discipline ‘Laboratory Diagnosis of Infectious Diseases of Animals’.

The lecturer spoke about the importance of farm biosecurity, and also shared the peculiarities of passing the veterinary checkpoint, disinfecting vehicles, organising a loading ramp for animals, etc. The knowledge gained will be useful for future pig breeding specialists and will be helpful in their work.


The Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders is a non-profit, voluntary organisation founded by domestic pork producers. The main goals of the association are to represent and protect the rights and interests of the association's farms, promote the development and implementation of new technologies for efficient pork production, expand sales markets, and protect the domestic market.
