The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders (AUPB) are finalising the development of an industry standard for biosecurity in pig production. This activity is being implemented within the framework of the project ‘Keeping Animals Healthy in Ukraine’.

Ongoing epizootic risks require producers to improve their farm protection system against infectious agents that can have serious business consequences, causing disease outbreaks and animal mortality. In such circumstances, compliance with high biosecurity standards is not only in the interest of each individual producer, but also a responsibility to the entire sector. Therefore, it is important to develop industry regulations that will apply to all participants in the pork market in Ukraine and ensure compliance with standard operating procedures to ensure biosecurity.

Accordingly, one of the tasks set by the AMPU and USDA was to develop an industry standard for biosecurity. Its purpose is to define a clear list of rules and measures for biosecurity of pig farms, as well as to provide instructions and practical solutions for their implementation.

The biosafety standard for pig production will be available later on the website of the Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders and PigUA.info.

The Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders is a non-profit, voluntary organisation founded by domestic pork producers. The main goals of the association are to represent and protect the rights and interests of the association's farms, promote the development and implementation of new technologies for efficient pork production, expand sales markets, and protect the domestic market.
