According to the Center for Advanced Studies on Applied Economics (Cepea), meats competing with beef recorded stronger price increases in September. Chilled chicken prices rose the most, up 12% compared with August. Pork prices increased by 3%, while beef carcase prices rose by only 1%.
As a result, beef became somewhat more competitive, although pork remains a significantly cheaper alternative for consumers.
As of 28 September, the price of 1 kg of beef carcase was equivalent to the price of 3.17 kg of pork. The lower this ratio, the narrower the price gap between the two types of meat.
Despite the increase in pork prices in September, pork’s price advantage over beef remains considerably greater than in 2025.
Throughout last year, the price ratio remained below 2 kg of pork for every 1 kg of beef carcase. In 2026, the ratio gradually increased and exceeded 3 kg in August and during the first 28 days of September.
This means that, compared with last year, beef has become relatively more expensive than pork, even though pork prices rose faster in September.
For the domestic market, future competition between different types of meat will depend not only on wholesale quotations, but also on how price changes are reflected at retail level and in consumers’ purchasing power.
