A suspected case of Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) at a goat farm in Germany has tested negative, according to the country's agriculture ministry. German Minister of Agriculture Cem Özdemir confirmed that tests revealed no presence of the FMD virus or antibodies.

On 10 January 2025, an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) was detected on a farm in Brandenburg, near Berlin, for the first time in almost four decades. The disease was detected in a herd of water buffaloes, where three animals died from the serotype O virus. 14 buffaloes were kept on the farm, and the rest were immediately destroyed. This case prompted an immediate response from the German authorities and the international community, as foot-and-mouth disease is one of the most contagious diseases of ungulates, although it does not pose a threat to humans.

November 2024 marked another successful month for U.S. pork exports, according to data released by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF). Total pork exports reached 272,141 metric tons (mt), up 5% year-over-year, while export value increased by 6% to nearly $783 million.

In December, the Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders published the Industry biosecurity standard for Pig Farms, developed with the support of the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) as part of the technical assistance project ‘Ensuring Animal Health in Ukraine’.

In the first ten days of January, purchase prices for slaughter pigs consolidated in all regions, according to analysts of the Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders, based on the results of weekly monitoring.
