Laboratory monitoring support is provided to fifty enterprises, primarily those affected by the war and located in areas close to the war zone or de-occupied territories.
Tetyana Seniva, founder and head of Bilyaevsky Svynokompleks LLC (Zaporizhzhia region), shared her experience of participating in the project:
“In the first weeks of the war, when the wave of occupation was rapidly approaching, there was a fear that Russian troops would reach us. March-April was the most difficult period, when the activities of almost all enterprises were “paralyzed”, in particular due to logistical difficulties. That's why the company worked for two months without veterinary drugs. The animals were fed exclusively grain, as there were no premixes or other additives. This had a corresponding impact on production. Therefore, when in 2023 they received a proposal from the Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders to use the tools of veterinary laboratory diagnostics, they gladly accepted it.
Thanks to a wide range of laboratory tests, we were able to assess the health status of the herd, identify the main risks, formulate and implement a treatment program in a timely manner, and get good results.”
Having gained a positive experience of cooperation, Bilyaevsky Svynokompleks LLC continued to participate in the project in 2024, joining not only the laboratory monitoring of pig pathogens but also the assessment of feed quality, in particular the level of mycotoxins in raw materials.
“Since we produce our own feed and buy raw materials from local farmers, it is very important for us to know the level of quality and safety of the feed we feed to pigs. Mycotoxins are a hidden threat, the signs of which can go unnoticed for a long time, so the only way out is to be proactive. And we are very grateful to the ASU for the support provided, which in the current difficult conditions allows enterprises like us to control and minimize production challenges, simplifying our work,” comments Tetiana Seniva.
The Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders is a non-profit, voluntary organization founded by domestic pork producers. The main goals of the association are to represent and protect the rights and interests of the association's farms, promote the development and implementation of new technologies for efficient pork production, expand sales markets, and protect the domestic market.
