The pig farming sector showed the largest increase. In June 2025, 301,000 pigs were sent for slaughter, which is 5.99% more than in May (284,000 pigs). Compared to the same period in 2024, the number of pigs slaughtered increased by 1.35% (from 297,000).
Pork production in June amounted to 26.7 thousand tonnes, which is 2.1% higher than in May and 1.18% higher than in June 2024.
Growth in production volumes was also recorded in the lamb, goat and poultry segments. In contrast, the beef sector saw a slight decline, which experts attribute to reduced demand in the domestic market and a reduction in cattle numbers.
Analysts note that the steady growth in pork and poultry production indicates that the market is adapting to the challenges of recent years and improving the efficiency of production processes. The growth trend is expected to continue until the end of the year, especially in the pork segment, which remains the main type of meat for Romanian consumers.
