The pig population in Denmark has increased again, according to data released by the country's Statistical Office based on the results of the census as of 1 June 2025. Compared to the same period last year, the number of pigs in the country increased by 5.6% to about 11.89 million.

The growth occurred primarily in the category of fattening pigs weighing over 50 kg, with their number increasing by 11.5%. The number of weaned piglets weighing up to 50 kg also increased by 5.4%, and the number of suckling piglets rose by 2.8%.

On the other hand, the number of sows remained unchanged at around 1.15 million animals. According to the ministry, the increase in the number of piglets with a stable number of sows is explained by the increased efficiency of reproductive herd management, in particular thanks to modern technologies and improved care practices.

Experts note that these trends indicate a strengthening of the production potential of Danish pig farming, which is one of the leading industries in Europe.
