In early August, prices for slaughter pigs continued to rise, as evidenced by the results of the weekly monitoring of purchase prices by the Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders.

In the first decade of August, prices on the live market recovered to the level recorded a month earlier: thus, the purchase prices for the main commodity volumes this week tended to be at the level of 58-59 UAH/kg, although in different parts of the country prices were announced in the range of 56 to 60+ UAH/kg. The weighted average market price was 58.6 UAH/kg, which is 5.3% higher than last week.

Procurers note that supply is currently limited both by smaller quantities of live batches and by a decrease in the average slaughter weight of animals. At the same time, the dynamics of trade are currently assessed as relatively stable, and demand as stable. The relative homogeneity of the market situation in different parts of the country is also evidenced by the absence of significant regional price differences. In view of this, most meat processors expect positive price dynamics to continue, although some of them believe that price fluctuations will be limited to 1-2 UAH/kg.
