«If in March Ukraine exported about 200 thousand tons of grain by land and river ways, in the new conditions Ukrainian agrarians exported 1 million 740 thousand tons of grain in May. That is, if the work of agricultural, transport and customs infrastructure will be established in the future, the total volume of exports by land and river corridors can be increased up to 50% of the total pre-war export volume, which was about 5 million tons», said Denis Marchuk.
However, according to him, there is a certain factor restraining the passage of Ukrainian grain to the world market through these corridors.
«If we see that domestic entrepreneurs and relevant government agencies cope quite effectively, then, unfortunately, sometimes our Western partners who have logistics are not yet ready to accept such large shipments of grain from Ukraine,» the expert explained.
According to him, international partners should understand this problem and listen to the statements of the Ukrainian president, who asked for active assistance in unblocking the Ukrainian Black Sea ports. Otherwise, land corridors for a long time will remain the main way of supply of Ukrainian food on the world market.
«If the ports are not unblocked in the near future, before the beginning of the new harvest, the farmers will have to use new technologies for storing crops. And this will require additional funding, in particular through the mechanisms of state support», Marchuk said.
