Planted areas are smaller, which means the yields should be higher. This is the goal this year and further set by Ukrainian agrarians. And the parliament actively supports this goal. In particular, by adopting the bill number 4558 which regulates the use of pesticides and agrochemicals in Ukraine. The press service of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine reports.

"Treatment of plants is a necessity, because pesticides are a kind of medicine for them. And it is this procedure that affects the increase in yield, says the Chairman of the Committee on Agrarian and Land Policy Alexander Gaidu. - However, there are several problems in the sphere of pesticide handling. In particular, the use of counterfeit products, as well as lack of awareness of farmers and beekeepers on the composition of pesticides, the properties of substances, their impact on human health, bees and the environment.

According to experts, today in Ukraine, almost a third of pesticides are counterfeit, imported into the country by individuals. The use of such products harms people and the environment.

The bill prohibits the import of pesticides to individuals. It also introduces European requirements for packaging and labeling of pesticides so as to minimize the possibility of mistaking them for a product, drink, medicine or food. Another provision of the document is the introduction of a public electronic register of pesticides and agrochemicals with the most complete information about the preparations, to which farmers and beekeepers will have access.

"In terms of pesticide use, Ukraine now occupies a low 17th position in the world. However, the society has a somewhat stereotypically negative attitude to these drugs. The only way to change this is to make the use of medicines for plants as correct as possible, in compliance with all norms. This will improve and increase our crops, which in war conditions is a must", concluded Alexander Gaidu.
