"February ended unexpectedly and differently for the sector, and these events significantly outplayed the situation we have in the pork market. After all, since February 24 the hostilities covered quite large areas of Ukraine, except for the operators who were directly in the war zone or in the temporarily occupied territories. About 400 pig farms in ten regions of Ukraine were directly affected by the hostilities and to a large extent these actions affected operators in regions where pig breeding was quite actively developed, in particular, this affected Kyiv region, Chernihiv region, Dnipropetrovsk region and some southern regions, although they did not have too many of them. However, due to these circumstances, a number of fairly active operators have remained isolated from the domestic pork market and will continue to be," - commented the head of the analytical department of the Association of Ukranian Pig Breeders Alexandra Bondarska during the webinar "The domestic pork industry: the results and prospects 202 held on 20.12.2022.
Most pork producers are more or less autonomous in terms of feeding: most of them have arable land, grow crops, have a feed mill in the enterprise structure, and buy soybean or sunflower meal / cake, as well as premixes. There are at least 10 large producers that are part of vertically integrated companies, some of which include not only meat processing but also retail.
The Association of Ukranian Pig Breeders is a nonprofit, voluntary organization founded by domestic pork producers. The main objectives of the association are representation and protection of rights and interests of the association farms, assistance in the development and introduction of new technologies for the efficient production of pork, expansion of markets, and protection of domestic sales market.
