The trading for the 52nd week ended with a further increase in prices for pork live weight. Thus, a number of operators entered the market this week with less volume of supply than last week. In view of this and more brisk procurement activity the prices for pigs of slaughtered condition have added 0.5-2.5 UAH/kg to the previous week's level. On the New Year's Eve the purchasing prices in all regions agreed, because the majority of commodity lots were sold within the range 69-71 UAH/kg, and weighted average selling price was at the level 70.15 UAH/kg, that is 2.2% higher than the previous week.
Representatives of meat processors state that sales became more active on the eve of the holiday weekend. Although the current pace of sales does not compare with the pre-holiday trade dynamics of the previous years, almost all note that the market activity of the last two weeks is significantly higher. Some operators express the hope that a smoother price dynamics at the end of the year may "set" a more balanced rate of price movement at the beginning of the new year as well.
