At the beginning of August the AUPB monitored the plans and expectations of the key industry operators. The survey was joined by 100 domestic industrial pig farms, which at the beginning of the year kept more than 70% of the total number of pigs and about 90% of the industrial breeding stock. According to the results of such a survey, 18% of responding pig farms (total herd of 0.42 million head, 35,000 sows) are at various stages of development plans.
"At present, most of the operators who declared their readiness for further development are finalizing the work on the projects launched before the war: they increase their livestock by reaching the planned fattening capacities or complete the construction/reconstruction of production facilities. However, there are also those that have decided to continue development in wartime conditions, taking into account the need of the market. In particular, several pig farms are gradually restoring the capacity after a forced "pause", they are planning repopulation, a number of operators are considering the possibility of launching their own meat processing", analysts of the Association of Ukranian Pig Breeders commented.
The remaining participants of the survey (83 enterprises, which contain about 1.7 million pigs) are in the territories under the control of Ukraine and continue to work in a normal mode.
The Association of Ukranian Pig Breeders is a nonprofit, voluntary organization founded by domestic pork producers. The main objectives of the association are representation and protection of the rights and interests of the association farms, assistance in the development and introduction of new technologies for the efficient production of pork, expansion of markets, protection of domestic sales market.
