In May, pork imports remained at a low level, according to the Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders.

According to preliminary customs statistics, in May, the total receipts of fresh, chilled and frozen pig meat (UKTZED 0203) amounted to 603.5 tons or USD 1.7 million. USD in foreign currency terms. This is a little more than a month earlier, but much weaker than the usual import activity in previous years, analysts of the Pig Producers of Ukraine Association comment: "Thus, only last May, stimulated by tax incentives, the volume of pork imports was ten times higher. And the total volume of imported pork for five months is more than five times lower than in the same period in 2022 and 2.5 times lower than the year before last: 4.2 thousand tons against 22.4 thousand tons and 10.3 thousand tons, respectively."

"Significant volatility of the purchase prices in May, in particular, their increase at the end of the month, somewhat revived the activity of importers in the last week of the month. However, this did not have a significant impact on the market situation, given the low volumes of external revenues. The main restraining factor continues to be higher prices on the European pork market and, accordingly, for imported items of the corresponding origin. Thus, the average price per kilogram of pork imported in May amounted to USD 2.82, up from USD 2.4. USD against 2.4 USD in April and 1.88 USD in May. USD in April and 1.88 USD in March. USD in March",  the analysts of the Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders explained.
