At the beginning of September the Association Ukranian Pig Breeders (AUPB) monitored the mood and expectations of hundreds of active operators of industrial pig breeding (whose total number at the beginning of the year amounted to about 2.5 million heads or 70% of industrial pig breeding, and breeding — about 200 thousand .head or 90%, respectively).
«As a month before, 8 of 10 industrial pig farms (80 enterprises, containing about 1.7 million pigs) continue to operate in a normal mode. Including 5 weighty market operators, which at the beginning of 2022 held about 3% of the industrial hog population (approximately 100 thousand heads), are trying to maintain work under occupation. 20% of the respondents (over 0.5 mln heads in total, including about 50 thousand sows) are considering and implementing development plans:
4 enterprises (6% of the sample herd or about 160 thousand heads) are completing the construction/reconstruction of production facilities
4 operators are planning to repopulate and/or «restart» production after the «crisis» reduction by the beginning of the war;
the rest (about 400 thousand heads of the total herd) plan to increase production: half by their own fattening, the other half by increasing the breeding stock» commented in the AUPB.
Regarding the obstacles the majority of operators (70 of the hundred of surveyed enterprises which keep about 1,3 million pigs) noted that in August there were no new obstacles for the stable work. about 650 thousand of total herds), the immediate obstacles for stable work in the end of August and beginning of September were the uncertainty associated with the continuing reservation of employees, and also the difficulty of forage procurement because of the delayed implementation of the new crop in anticipation of higher prices .
