To manage the country's food security amidst rising prices, the Indian government has prohibited the export of wheat.

India's Directorate General of Foreign Trade published an official notice amending the export policy of wheat to prohibit its export. According to the notice, the country was no longer able to access adequate wheat supplies due to a sudden spike in the global price of wheat. The prohibition of wheat exports was made to protect the food security of India and neighboring and other vulnerable countries.

The notice states that wheat exports will be allowed on the basis of permission granted by the Government of India to other countries to meet their food security needs and based on the request of their governments.
