Improving biosecurity is a priority for the industry, given the epizootic risks. This requirement applies not only to pig producers, but also to genetics, feed and processors who are closely linked in the pork production chain. Moreover, such cooperation involves transport of animals and processed products, which is considered a major factor in the spread of infectious diseases.

To help the sector address gaps in the biosecurity system, including transport, experts from the  Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders (AUPB) and the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) have prepared training videos demonstrating best practices for disinfection, including hot fogging and baking, as part of the Animal Health in Ukraine project.

The videos are available on the YouTube channel of the  Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders:

It is worth reminding that since October 2022, the Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) of the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the AUPB have been implementing the project "Keeping Animals Healthy in Ukraine". The project aims to assess the risks of disease control during the war, support businesses in the de-occupied and near-occupied territories with free laboratory diagnostics, help pig farms improve their biosecurity system, and increase the capacity of the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection to respond to suspected animal diseases at the stage of veterinary examination in the agri-food market.

The Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders is a non-profit, voluntary organization founded by domestic pork producers. The main goals of the association are to represent and protect the rights and interests of the association's farms, promote the development and implementation of new technologies for efficient pork production, expand sales markets, and protect the domestic market.
