The action of the «grain» initiative" will be extended for another four months. This was announced on November 17 by the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Oleksandr Kubrakov on his page in Facebok.

«The initiative for the safe transportation of agricultural products through the Black Sea has been extended for another 120 days. This decision was made only in Istanbul. The United Nations and Turkey remained guarantors of the initiative,» he wrote.

Also, he said, Ukraine has officially applied to the partners of the initiative with a proposal to extend it for at least 1 year and to join the port of Nikolaev to it.

«We are waiting for their response,» the minister said.

In addition, according to Kubrakov, Ukraine has submitted proposals for partners to ensure the effective operation of the Joint Coordination Center.

Opinion of an expert

The prolongation of the Grain Corridor for 120 days is an important signal for the further work of the agricultural sector. Andriy Dykun began his speech today in Hanover during EuroTier 2022 with this.

"The grain agreement is an opportunity to export from Ukraine. The uncertainty with the blocking of seaports has destabilized the industry, because Ukraine has a surplus of grain that needs to be sold so that farmers have working capital for the next cycle of agricultural production," the head of the UkrainianAgriCouncil said.

Before the full-scale invasion of russia, 8-9 million tons of grain per month were exported through seaports. It is currently impossible to send such volumes through the western border, because the European infrastructure is not able to accept such a large amount of grain.

The de-blockade of ports has already allowed exporting 11 million tons of agricultural products to 38 countries since August 1, and in September-October Ukraine actually started shipping about 7 million tons of agricultural products per month.

This is a signal to agricultural producers that the spring sowing season will be expedient, access to markets is open. However, the threat from russia will remain.

"For us, the associations, as well as for the Ukrainian government, President and parliament, it is clear that we cannot keep developing our agricultural sector as it was before, because russia will not go anywhere after the war, and we will always have certain risks of blocking our ports," he said.
