This decision is a strategic step in the process of Ukraine's integration into the EU and will facilitate the implementation of the initiative "Paths of Solidarity" for the export of Ukrainian agricultural products and the delivery of humanitarian aid to Ukraine.
In particular, the following changes were made:
- The North-Baltic corridor was extended through Lviv and Kiev to Mariupol;
- Baltic-Black Sea - Aegean corridor extended through Lviv, Chernivtsi (Romania and Moldova) to Odessa Baltic Sea - Adriatic Sea and Rhine - Danube corridors will pass through Lviv.
The inclusion of logistics routes in the TEN-T network allows:
- eliminate existing obstacles to logistics operations;
- to attract European investments for modernization of transport infrastructure;
- gain access to EU assistance tools for the development of the Ukrainian part of the TEN-T network;
- to develop multimodal transport;
- to reduce logistics costs;
- to improve the quality of services in the transportation of goods.
In addition, the European Commission excluded Russian and Belarusian routes from the TEN-T network, as well as reduced the status of routes in the EU at the junctions with these aggressor countries.
The Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) is being created by the European Union to connect Europe from west to east and from north to south with a network of roads, railroads, airports and waterways. The development of the transport system will take place in two stages: the "key" network should be completed by 2030 and the "general" network by 2050.
Ukraine joined TEN-T in 2017. According to the European Commission's Indicative Investment Plan for TEN-T corridors, projects totaling 4.45 billion euros are to be implemented in Ukraine by 2030. This is the largest figure among all the states of the EU Eastern Partnership.
