A series of recent African swine fever (ASF) outbreaks overseas have prompted new prevention programs in Canada.

In the past six weeks, new ASF outbreaks have been confirmed in Bhutan, India, Nepal, the Philippines, Malaysia, South Korea and Thailand, according to the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH).

Meanwhile, Canada's African Swine Fever Preparedness Program (ASFIPP) is allocating C$23.4 million over the next year to assess and improve biosecurity, feral swine management and other related research projects.
