The seasonally limited supply of live pigs continues to fuel price growth. During last week’s trades, most quotations increased by 0.5–2 UAH/kg compared to the previous level. This week, bulk consignments of pigs are being purchased at prices ranging from 95 to 98 UAH/kg. There are also reports of even higher prices for both industrial-quality animals and well-fattened backyard pigs. The average market price this week reached 95.7 UAH/kg — a 1.3% increase over the previous week's figure.
Meat processors note that the current supply of pigs is just enough to meet regular demand, with no room for additional procurement. This has resulted in heightened competition not only in product sales but also in pig sourcing. Given the smaller number of market-ready pigs — and/or their lighter weights due to slower summer growth — most processors expect this “creeping” upward trend of +1 UAH/kg per week to continue in the near term.
Feedback on current trade activity ranges from “stable” to “stably sluggish,” but the main pricing factor remains the seasonal drop in pig availability, compounded by an overall reduction in domestic pork production.
