Hamlet Protein has the protein your animals can utilize
Ever wondered if you are getting the most out of the protein in your feed? It’s a relevant question. The fact is, many feed producers are not.
While the high crude protein content of feed ingredients such as fishmeal may give the impression of being the best value for money, what the nutritional declaration does not reveal is how much of that protein is actually digestible amino acids.
The truth is a proportion of the crude protein content is not protein at all.
The nitrogen question
The anomaly arises from the widely accepted use of nitrogen as an indicator of protein content. But, while proteins account for most of the nitrogen in a plant or animal-derived raw material, some of it originates from other components. This non-protein nitrogen is not only of no nutritional benefit — it is most likely to have a negative impact on animal performance and is a common cause of diarrhoea. Nitrogen from non-protein-nitrogen is excreted through the urine/faeces. This adds to liver and kidney stress.
More real protein
When you buy products from Hamlet Protein, you buy a feed ingredient with an optimal protein content that gives animals the best possible nutrition. Studies show that our products result in less diarrhoea* and faster growth — at lower cost than feed ingredients that, on the face of it, contain more protein.
What you need is the protein that gives the healthiest, strongest animals. That’s what you get with the products from Hamlet Protein. Why pay more for anything less?
Facts behind the figures
Total protein content can be a deceptive indicator of the quality of a feed protein source. To determine the real nutritional value, it is necessary to break down the nitrogen content used to measure the protein in feed raw materials. This shows how much of the nitrogen is derived from amino acids — the proteins essential to healthy growth — and how much is non-protein nitrogen, with a potentially negative effect on animal health.
The graph below compares the protein content of HP 100 and HP 300 with other sources of feed protein.
Although the protein declaration e.g. shows that HP 300 contains just 56% protein compared to, for example, 72% in Danish fishmeal, a breakdown of the nitrogen content reveals:
- HP 100 and HP 300 contain relatively more amino acids — necessary for growth and wellbeing
- HP 100 and HP 300 contain less non-protein nitrogen and hereby the imbalance of the gut is reduced
Proof behind the claims
Numerous studies have confirmed the key benefits that make the products from Hamlet Protein a high-value choice for feed producers:
- High protein digestibility
- Low risk of diarrhoea*
- Efficient, high-value alternative to other animal and vegetable proteins
- Less nitrogen in urine
* Due to the correction of a nutritional imbalance in the gut.
