Zootechnologia, LLC, a Ukrainian enterprise without foreign investments is situated in Kherson region. The farm has started its work in 2005 by buying two pig complexes in Kherson region: Novoraysk village, Beryslav district (there is a sow unit now) and Vinogradovo village, Tsurupynsk district (a finishing unit).
In October 2005 the reconstruction of production areas started. At the beginning 2006, first piglets were stall feed. The farm brought first sows from Lithuania in May 2007: 377 guilts and 10 boars. They were usual F1 (Landrace x Big White). Nowadays Zootechnologia does the replacement under own steam. The enterprise buys the semen to prevent carrying pathogens.
As of January 1, 2014 the Zootechnologia’s sow herd contains 3100 sows. The bases of the reproductive herd are the double breed hybrids Landrace — Big White. Terminal boars of breed Duroc are used to produce commercial piglets. Such reproductive program helps to reach high sow productivity (12-13 piglets per farrowing) and carcass quality (nearly 74% of meat yield).
In 2014 the farm completed the finishing unit reconstruction of simultaneous housing of 16 thous heads.
The enterprise works only with pigbreeding. But together has the component of vertically integrated structure — own slaughterhouse. It’s a separate company that buys the Zootechnologia’s livestock by market prices. They slaughter and sell the fresh meat (light processing).
The future plans are to increase the main herd to 5 thous heads (the global aim — 10 thous sows) till 2016.
