The funding will be provided through the Feral Swine Eradication and Control Pilot Program, which represents a total investment of $105 million.
The programme is being jointly implemented by USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS).
According to USDA estimates, feral swine cause more than $3.4 billion in damage to the U.S. economy every year, including damage to agricultural land and other landscapes. In addition to economic losses, they may also pose risks to livestock and human health.
Applications for funding for feral swine control and eradication projects will be accepted in 14 states. Selected partners will help landowners restore damaged areas, organise the removal of feral swine directly on farms, provide training and deliver other related services.
All projects will be implemented jointly by the selected partners, NRCS and APHIS.
