According to Yesin, the strike occurred at 01:15 in the village of Novoselivka, hitting a pig farm designed to house 15,000 animals. Only about 10% of the herd survived.
“About 13,000 pigs died. The farm had around ten old concrete pigsties from Soviet times. They were targeted directly — in some cases drones struck the same building three times. Eight out of ten pigsties were completely destroyed by fire,” Yesin reported.
The assault came in two waves: the first began at 01:15, followed by a second strike about 90 minutes later. In total, around 20 Shahed drones hit the farm, though Ukrainian air defense forces intercepted many more.
One security guard was injured during the evacuation, sustaining a leg injury, and was treated on-site. The Kharkiv Regional Military Administration also reported that another local resident sought medical help following the strikes.
By the morning of October 3, the fire at the farm had not yet been fully extinguished, and emergency services continued firefighting operations.
The destroyed facility was a member of the Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders. The Association emphasized that the attack not only inflicted significant economic losses but also served as another example of russia’s systematic destruction of Ukraine’s agricultural sector, which plays a crucial role in the nation’s food security.
