Ukraine has the potential of development export outlets for native pork sale. Artur Loza, the president of Association of Pig Breeders of Ukraine stated this during the press-conference «Is there collapse at the pork market? What provokes the price decrease and what impact will it have on pork production in 2016?». «World pork consumption grows, so lots of work ahead,» — he said.
According to the expert, the total volume of international pork trade is about 6-7 mln tons and this sector grows annually.
«The EU market is very attractive for us, but we have to understand that Europeans are at second place in world export structure. There are other promising directions; the biggest are Japan, China and other Asian countries. African countries are also very perspective market. We talk about it more and more,» — told the head of Association.
Mr. Loza mentioned that Ukrainian producers and processors still have problems with export to EU. In particularly because of:
- Slaughter conditions;
- Livestock identification;
- Cases of ASF in the country.
«At the present moment, pig livestock is identified only in commercial farms. Almost 4 mln heads are out of this procedure. As for Asian markets, their standards are not so strict, that’s why we start the collaboration with Ministry of Agriculture and Food in this direction.
Unfortunately Ukraine is not ASF-free country. In this context we need the additional collaboration, especially with State Veterinary Service. Compartment system could be the solution to the problem. It means the possibility to distinguish ASF-free regions and households and export pork of them. There is a lot of technical work but it’s one of key directions of pig industry development,» — summarized the expert.
Association of Pig Producers of Ukraine is unprofitable, voluntary organization. The creation date is July 14, 2011. Now APPU joins 35 households, the sow herds of which compose 35% of nationwide capacities. The main objective of Association is to protect corporate rights and interests in the field of pigbreeding, to attain the worldwide standards of manufacturing owing to implementation of modern technologies.
