USDA raises global corn crop and stocks forecast at the expense of Ukraine

USDA analysts in a June review raised the forecast for global corn production in 2022/23 MY to 1.185 billion tons, up from 1.18 billion tons in the preliminary forecast, which, nevertheless, is significantly lower than the 2021/22 season (1.216 billion tons) .

In particular, experts raised the grain harvest forecast in Ukraine to 25 million tons against the 19.5 million tons forecast in May, which is, however, significantly lower than last MY (42.1 million tons). For other major producing countries, analysts left forecasts of gross corn harvest unchanged.

Global corn exports were also largely unchanged from the preliminary forecast of 183.22 million metric tons (189.1 million metric tons in 2021/22 MY), at 183.19 million tons.

Experts increased forecast of world cereal stocks in the next season to 310.4 million tons against 305.1 million tons according to May forecast, which is somewhat lower than in 2021/22 MY (310.9 million tons). Thus, analysts have made an upward adjustment of reserves at the expense of Ukraine - to 12.07 (8.07; 6.7) million tons, and the United States - to 35.5 (34.5; 37.7) million tons.
