Ukraine’s debut in Agribenchmark took place during the Global Meat Forum and Pig Conference, held on June 23–26 in St. Pölten, Austria. The event gathered more than 200 participants from 26 countries and served as a platform to discuss key global trends in meat production, added value and sustainability strategies, and compare pig production systems across nations.
The key trends, challenges, and development prospects of Ukraine’s pig sector were presented by Oleksandra Bondarska, Head of the Analytical Department of the AUPB. In her speech, she emphasized that more than 60% of Ukraine’s domestic pork supply comes from industrial producers, and the country has maintained a consistently high self-sufficiency rate — not below 86% over the past decade. Despite the ongoing war, the industry remains balanced domestically and is focused on expanding foreign trade. Proactive market players, in cooperation with government bodies, are working to promote Ukrainian pork exports.
“The Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders launched national benchmarking comparisons among industrial pig farms back in 2016, while closely observing similar international research. This year, we are proud to shift from being observers to becoming active participants of the Agribenchmark community. This is a crucial step on the path toward integration into the global market. We believe this will not only help us better understand our position on the world map but also allow other countries to recognize Ukraine as a competitive pork producer,” said Bondarska.
Joining the Agribenchmark system marks a historic milestone for Ukrainian pig farming. It enables the country not only to showcase the competitive advantages of its pork production at the global level but also to receive valuable feedback — benchmarking against leading countries in terms of production costs, productivity, resource management efficiency, and development policies.
