In May, purchase prices for slaughter pigs consolidated, according to the results of weekly monitoring of purchase prices by the analytical department of the Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders.

Last Friday's trading ended with a decline in the maximum purchase prices for live pigs. In particular, in some parts of the east and centre, quotations weakened by 0.5–2 UAH/kg. Thanks to this change, the price corridor narrowed to 3 UAH/kg and amounted to 93–96 UAH/kg. At the same time, the weighted average market price has remained virtually unchanged for the third week in a row at 93.6 UAH/kg.

Unlike prices for live pigs, pressure on prices for chilled pork half-carcasses intensified due to more intense competition for buyers among suppliers of such products. Thus, meat processing representatives have been more unanimous in their assessments of trading activity in recent weeks, noting sluggish sales, the presence of transitional stocks, and lower procurement volumes. According to some market players, this could be a prerequisite for a decline in purchase prices for slaughter animals. At the same time, opinions on the current supply vary somewhat, with a number of processors believing that prices may stabilise and continue to consolidate within a narrower price range. In addition, some of them expect trade to pick up as weather conditions improve, with relative price stability contributing to more orderly sales.

The results of weekly monitoring of purchase prices from processors are available in this section.
