Prices for live pigs of slaughtering conditions stabilised in the second half of January. This is reported by analysts of the Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders with reference to the results of weekly monitoring.

Quotations on the live market for the second week in a row are at the level of 74-75 UAH/kg in all regions. Thus, during the auction, a number of operators revised prices by 0.5-1 UAH/kg both downward and upward, but mostly the purchase prices for cuttings remained at the level of last week. Both higher and lower price offers are recorded sporadically, and deviations from the above range do not exceed UAH 1/kg. The weighted average market price was 74.25 UAH/kg, up 0.1% from a week earlier.

Representatives of the meat processing industry note the weakening of sales through all channels, but express hope for a recovery at the beginning of the new month. The majority of both producers and processors state that the supply of live bait remains limited. At the same time, some harvesters believe that this factor is not enough to maintain the current price level at the upcoming auction, so they expect a 2-3 UAH/kg decline. However, it is doubtful that the price reduction will be able to boost pork sales, facilitate the sale of more expensive stocks or counteract dumping in the pork market, which has emerged amid intense competition between suppliers. Therefore, a number of players do not rule out further stabilisation of prices.

The results of the weekly monitoring of purchase prices from processors can be found in this section.
