Profitability of livestock for the year is as five times as high

Experts state a significant increase in profitability of livestock industry in 2009. The tendency is about to get stronger.
As far back as 2008, Ukrainian cattle breeding industry had a strong position in the list of low-profitable agribusiness sectors. According to the ASTP, a year ago, the average profitability of agricultural enterprises in this direction was not more than 0,1%. In 2009 it increased up to 5.4%, despite all the difficulties that the Ukrainian economy was experiencing during the year.
The main segments, from which there was growth, were pigsty, milk and eggs production. This premise lucrative work depends not only on market conditions, but also on improving the technology of agricultural enterprises.
"During 2009, Ukraine had fairly high prices for pork (more info) compared to the world price level, while maintaining reasonable cost for forage crops. This allowed to increase the profitability of production. Also significant role was played by the usage of modern feed technology ", - said Vitaly Lokhov, CEO of “Biomin Ukraine", the official representative of the global holding company Erber Group, which manufactures animal feed. Referring to him, in 2009 the main producers of pork have become more active while using modern feed additives.
In 2010, agricultural enterprises continue increasing the number of pigs. For example, on the 1st of March this year it increased by 22% compared to the same period last year. The prices have decreased by 22,5%. But this, according to the ASTP experts, can’t stop the tendency of profitability growth in this sector of agriculture.
