The average retail price of a kilogram of pork in August increased by 6% compared to July, according to the analytical department of the Association Ukranian Pig Breeders.

The average price of a kilo of pork on the shelves of supermarkets rose by 6% or 9.1 UAH/kg in August, reaching 153.1 UAH/kg for the month. The increase in retail prices for pork chilled semi-finished products has been observed since the beginning of the month, AUPB analysts commented. Such positive dynamics has led to higher prices of purchasing pigs of slaughtered condition, because this year's season tendencies were intensified by the reduction of domestic supply of pork because of the war".

Analysts note that the positive price dynamics of pork on the supermarket shelves in August corresponded to the increase in prices of live pigs. The average August price of pigs of slaughter conditions increased by 9,6 UAH / kg, and the increase in average retail prices against July for the majority of pork parts was limited to 9-13 UAH / kg or 6-11%, except for premium steak and tenderloin. (See "The price of pork parts" on page 5 and 4.5 UAH/kg and 4.5 UAH/kg, respectively).

"Concerns about the sharp reaction on the part of buyers to the rise in price were not justified. Although we have not observed rush demand for pork from the end consumer, the pork suppliers confirm that the trade in August was fairly uniform, "explained in the Association.
