The French caught up with their poultry consumption after the avian influenza outbreaks and consequently reduced their pork consumption, which fell in volume by an estimated 3.7% vs. 2022, after having risen by 0.7% in 2022 vs. 2021.
2024 trend: overall pork consumption back on the rise
Over the first two months of 2024, apparent pork consumption picked up 1.6%, driven by out-of-home catering, while consumption of other meats remained on a downward trend.
