In 2014 the situation with PED virus turned out to be particularly complicated. All the year USA and Canada were familiar to everybody as they happen to be in the epicentrum of its «activity» and incurred huge losses.
But, during last several weeks Ukraine has plumped into the focus of world community attention — Internet has peppered with news of local porcine epidemic diarrhea spreading. Such information was spread by foreign mass media. The message source was the claim of John Carr (expert in pig breeding, veterinarian), that he arrived in Ukraine to give advice to PED-positive households. Meanwhile, in the news about PED presence in Ukraine, the APPU is often mentioned, which supposedly has given such information as for Ukrainian households.
In spite of talks in industrial sphere about presence of PED, today in Ukraine there are no officially confirmed cases. State Veterinary and Phytosanitary Service has also declared it.
For its part, the Association of Pig Producers of Ukraine does not refut nor confirm the PED presence in Ukraine, as there is no official arguments. But, however, the situation has become critical, the APPU is ready to work together with State Veterinary and Phytosanitary Service to give the official response is there PED in Ukraine or not.
Representatives of Association of Pig Producers of Ukraine conceive that the organization name was attached to add the information bigger authority.
Association of Pig Producers of Ukraine is unprofitable, voluntary organization. The creation date is July 14, 2011. Now APPU joins 32 households, the sow herds of which compose 35% of nationwide capacities. The main objective of Association is to protect corporate rights and interests in the field of pigbreeding, to attain the worldwide standards of manufacturing owing to implementation of modern technologies.
It is a reminder that in April 2013 the APPU won the grant from the project of International Technical support «Agroinvest in Ukraine» that is financed by United States Agency for International Development (USAID), one of its tasks is to «Create the ongoing working groups under Ministry of Agrarian policy and Food for revision of current regulatory legal acts governing the pig breeding field in Ukraine. The duration of grant is 20 months (from 23.07.2013 to 23.03.2015)».
