However, these high temperatures this summer can negatively affect the livestock if all systems are not taken care of. Throughout the summer, especially on critically hot days, check the fans daily.
Check the enclosures outside to make sure there are no obstructions to air movement-bushes, weeds, etc.-around the building. Interference reduces the performance of the fans.
If you use net evaporators (cool pads) to cool indoor air, check the cassettes and water recirculation system regularly to make sure the cooling system is working properly.
Check the water lines in the pig houses. It is essential that pigs always have access to drinking water. The water must be the right temperature: if it is warm, the pigs will not drink it. Make sure there are enough cup or nipple drinkers for the number of animals in the unit. For example, for fattening animals, 1 cup drinker for every 12 to 15 animals is recommended. For each nipple drinker, 8 to 10 animals are recommended. On particularly hot days, if it is observed that pigs are standing in line for drinkers, place drinking water troughs in the squads.
If you are using sows' feed "to spare," you will notice that sows on their own prefer to eat early in the morning and evening when temperatures are cooler during the hot season. If, however, you feed sows manually or automatically without using the feeders "willy-nilly," then start feeding early in the morning and evening, as pigs are more likely to eat early in the morning, evening and night.
