Mexico is now able to export pork to Japan after the country recognised it as being a country free of classical swine fever.

This authorization will enable the Mexican meat industry to improve competitiveness and to boost exports to Japan, which already exceed 70,000 tons annually.

Previously, the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) only recognised the states of Baja California, Chihuahua, Sinaloa, Sonora, Yucatan and Jalisco as being free of disease, and so only producers from these areas were eligible to export pork meat.

This achievement is the result of joint work between producers, industry and the federal and state governments, whose efforts have guaranteed that producers meet high standards of health and safety.
