How to strategically deworm pigs

Strategic deworming in pig production is recommended before moving animals to another technological group.

It is recommended to treat immature pigs and sows 3 weeks before insemination and 2 weeks before farrowing, while young pigs should be treated before weaning (after 26 days of life), growing (65-75 days) and fattening (110 days), in combination with changing technological room and diet.

For strategic dehelminthization, safe preparations are selected from the point of view of possible contamination of animal products with veterinary drug residues. Due to high lipophilicity, macrocyclic lactones, fenbendazole, mebendazole and albendazole, levomisole have a long period of curention and limitations in use in pregnant and lactating sows.

That is why EEC requirements allow the use of flubendazole in pigs (piglets, fattened young, gestating and lactating sows). Benzimidazoles bind to tubulin dimers and prevent their polymerization. Prevention of tubulin polymerization inhibits glucose uptake and glycogen storage. Ovicidal effect is due to inhibition of fission spindle formation and disruption of metabolism during embryogenesis.

Preparations for mixing with drinking water are considered more technologically advanced. Modern excipients allow creating stable emulsions or suspensions with any substances, regardless of their degree of hydrophilicity.
