The German federal government has approved the regulation on origin labeling of food presented by Federal Minister of Food and Agriculture, Cem Özdemir.

The new regulation extends the indication of the origin of fresh, chilled, and frozen pork, sheep, goat, and poultry meat to non-prepackaged meat. Previously, this indication was only required for packaged meat.

Origin labeling was already mandatory for unpackaged beef.
