Raimund Yele pointed out that since 24 February, FAO has increased its capacity and, in addition to its emergency response programme, is restoring projects started before the war. He also stressed the importance of timely solutions to support critical food production and address disruptions in agrifood supply chains.
"We continue to support Ukraine and work closely with the Government of Ukraine, particularly the Ministry of Agricultural Policy and Food, and local administrations to ensure stability and development of agriculture in these difficult times for the country," said Raimund Yele. - FAO activities in Ukraine are focused on providing emergency support to agricultural households, filling in storage gaps, supporting the development of value chains, adaptation to climate change and fighting against land degradation.
Since the start of the war, FAO has designed and updated its Rapid Response Plan and is calling for $115.4 million to support almost 1 million people in rural areas through agricultural assistance and food security for those most affected by the war. Through this programme, FAO has already provided assistance to 80 000 people in 13 regions of Ukraine and continues to provide multi-purpose cash assistance to cover the basic needs of more than 5 000 families in the most affected areas in eastern and southern Ukraine.
In addition, FAO will soon be providing animal feed as well as piloting a voucher program to purchase needed agricultural inputs. Support will also be provided to displaced people and host families in rural areas as well as to the most vulnerable.
