During last year the State Veterinary and Phytosanitary Service has actively investigated potential export ways for Ukrainian pork (in general 30 directions). Some of them appeared closed (South Korea, China, Japan, USA) because of ASF, found on the territory of Ukraine. Bogdan Shapoval, the coordinator of Ukrainian food export board told about it during the general meeting of Association of Pig Breeders of Ukraine.

According to expert, there is some positive. «Among the investigated countries showed up really potential destinations:

  • Hong Kong and Macao (China FTZ) — in 2015 import was 254 000 tons (annually grows by 2%);
  • Nigeria — half Christendom, population is about 180 millions. Import is more than 200 000 tons and grows fast every year.
  • Angola: in 2015 import was 95 000 tons, it grows by 4-5% annually. Pork market dependence on imports reaches 53.1%. the country produces 84 000 tons and consumes 179 000 tons per year.
  • Congo: last year import reached 27 000 tons (+2-3% annually).
  • Philippines have imported 76 000 tons in 2015. By-products were especially popular. Yearly increase is about 11%.
  • The UAE purchased about 34 000 tons of pork in 2015. This amount was for hotel business and hired workers from Philippines. Every year import grows on 15-18%,» — commented Mr. Shapoval.

«Of course we have to find „key“ to each of these markets. Hope we’ll manage it. This year trade missions are planned to some of these countries,» — he added.

Association of Pig Producers of Ukraine is unprofitable, voluntary organization. The creation date is July 14, 2011. Now APPU joins 35 households, the sow herds of which compose 35% of nationwide capacities. The main objective of Association is to protect corporate rights and interests in the field of pigbreeding, to attain the worldwide standards of manufacturing owing to implementation of modern technologies.
