For European customer wants to see Ukrainian products on the shelves of it stores, they should be safe. In order to get closer to European standards, the President of Ukraine signed the Law «On Introducing Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine regarding food» that harmonizes the national legislation with the foreign one. According to this draft:

  • Types of offenses and the adequacy of legal penalties are specifying;
  • A single supervisory authority in the field of food safety is creating;
  • Approvals and procedures absent in the EU are cancelling;
  • Introducing the European principles of GMOs regulation;
  • The detailed requirements for the procedures of state food control on Ukrainian market and imported products are establishing;
  • The self-regulation mechanism of market operators on the basis of general legal requirements for food hygiene is establishing.

The adviser of the Minister of Agrarian policy and Food Mikhail Sokolov said that the Ukrainians have had the stereotype about the quality of foreign products. Europe is concentrated on the issues of food ingredients safety. So that, the main task of the manufacturer — to write honestly on the label of what the product consists of and assure that it is safe for health. The consumer itself chooses to buy the product or not.

In fact, the European food safety system based on:

  • Ensuring the monitoring system;
  • Introduction the HACCP principles;
  • The clearness of hygienic norms.
