ASF remains a major biological risk for the country due to the virus’s high environmental resistance and its long-term circulation within wild boar populations. This creates an ongoing threat to domestic pig herds, hunting farms, and related sectors. The new course therefore focuses on practical solutions and international experience, adapted to Ukraine’s realities and wartime conditions.
What the course covers
The course focuses on practical biosecurity measures for Ukraine’s hunting farms, using ASF control as a case study. The program outlines a logical and effective sequence of actions applied in EU countries and other regions worldwide:
- stopping the epidemic wave to prevent further spread of the virus;
- supporting the virus’s natural lethality to reduce the density of the infected population;
- controlling and reducing the remaining population after its collapse to prevent a new outbreak.
Who the course is for
The training is designed for:
- hunting ground users;
- professionals in the hunting and forestry sectors;
- veterinary specialists;
- representatives of local communities and authorities.
Practical outcomes for participants
After completing the course, participants will be able to:
- implement biosecurity measures to prevent ASF spread;
- develop containment and eradication strategies;
- assess virus transmission risks and organize safe carcass disposal;
- effectively communicate and coordinate actions between hunters, veterinarians, and communities.
Format and author
The course is available online 24/7 and includes video lectures, analytical materials, practical tools, real-life case studies, and a final test. The author and lecturer is Oleksandr Rievnivtsev, an FAO international livestock consultant. Participants who successfully pass the final test will receive a certificate.
