Last year situation on pork market was difficult not only in Ukraine but in the entire world as well. Olexandra Bondarska, the Analyst of Association of Pig Breeders of Ukraine told about it.
According to the expert, many exporting countries were in crisis because of heavy price decline, notably in USA, Canada and EU-members. The oversupply in Europe was the reason of market pressure and dollar strengthening slowed the American pork competiveness.
«As for prospects of pork world trade, the USDA estimated total pork exports in 2015 at about 7.1 mln tons slaughter weight. This year expected volumes are higher at 1.6%. Moreover the demand on the part of pork importing countries will brisk only by 0.5%. That’s why the price pressure on global market will probably continue,» — mentioned Olexandra.
The analyst added that last year Ukraine became a pork net exporter for the first time in a long period.
«During 2015 Ukraine had rather good results of external trade by fresh/chilled and frozen pork. 27,2 thousand of pork meat were sold abroad. Trade of commodity groups was a shade worse as Ukraine imports more fat and by-products than exports abroad,» — sum up the expert.
