A case of African swine fever (ASF) has been confirmed among wild fauna in Chernivtsi district. The virus was detected in wild boar found dead in agricultural fields near the village of Striletskyi Kut, Mamaivtsi community, prompting the introduction of containment measures.

The decision was made during an extraordinary meeting of the State Emergency Anti-Epizootic Commission under the Chernivtsi District Military Administration. Laboratory tests conducted by the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Laboratory confirmed the presence of the ASF virus.

The outbreak area has been designated in the agricultural lands near Striletskyi Kut. Accordingly, protection and surveillance zones have been established. The protection zone (within a 3 km radius) includes the villages of Striletskyi Kut and Bila, as well as part of the city of Chernivtsi. The surveillance zone (10 km) covers several communities in the district along with the regional center.

A range of anti-epizootic measures is being implemented in these zones, including pig population registration in farms, inspections of housing conditions, and monitoring compliance with biosecurity requirements. Quarantine measures will remain in place for at least 40 days after all required veterinary and sanitary actions are completed and officially approved.

Experts emphasize that the detection of ASF in wild fauna confirms the ongoing risk of virus introduction into pig farms, highlighting the critical importance of raising awareness among producers and ensuring strict biosecurity.

To address this, the Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders, together with leading industry experts, has developed an online course “African swine fever — everything the business needs to know,” available on the AgriAcademy platform. The program covers key aspects of ASF control—from transmission pathways to practical biosecurity measures—and consists of five modules with practical assignments.

The course is free of charge, available at any time, and participants receive a certificate upon completion.
