The training brought together representatives from Kyiv and Chernihiv regions, including veterinary inspectors, authorized veterinarians, and epizootologists from regional offices of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection.
According to the organizers, such trainings are part of a systematic effort to strengthen inspection capacity and establish a unified approach to implementing new veterinary requirements across Ukrainian regions.
The “Achieving Targets and Supporting Epidemic Control” (EpiC) project, under which the trainings are conducted, aims to strengthen public health, animal health, and laboratory capacity through technical assistance, institutional development, and improved coordination between national and regional authorities in line with international standards and multisectoral principles.
Within this initiative, the Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders is implementing activities aimed at combating antimicrobial resistance by raising awareness and promoting responsible antimicrobial use practices in livestock production.
The training program covered issues related to monitoring and controlling the use of veterinary medicinal products, particularly antibiotics, compliance with prescription and record-keeping requirements for antimicrobials, and prevention of improper use at livestock facilities.
The practical part of the training included a group simulation on organizing animal treatment and assessing whether proposed treatment schemes complied with current legal requirements and principles of responsible antibiotic use. According to the organizers, the key objective of such trainings is not only to explain new regulations but also to develop practical implementation skills:
“Today, it is essential that local specialists clearly understand action algorithms in specific situations — from monitoring antibiotic use to communicating with producers and assessing risks. That is why the trainings are built around practical cases and real-life scenarios.”
The next training for representatives of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection will take place on May 28 in Zhytomyr.
The EpiC project in Ukraine aims to strengthen the country’s public health, animal health, and laboratory capacity through targeted technical assistance, institutional capacity building, and improved coordination between national and regional public and animal health authorities in accordance with international standards and multisectoral principles.
