Mykhailo Koval, an expert in pig health, will deliver a presentation entitled “Long-Term Sow Productivity: Focus on Longevity.” At the heart of the presentation is an issue that is often underestimated in production: the true value of a sow to the farm’s economics. A replacement gilt is not simply an animal brought in to replace another — it is the foundation of future reproduction. At the same time, a productive sow with good health status and strong potential directly influences the quality and viability of piglets.
Mykhailo Koval will explain why sow longevity should not be viewed as a secondary indicator, but as an important component of stable production. The better the sow, the greater the chances of producing stronger, more uniform and higher-quality piglets — and, consequently, achieving better results throughout the entire production cycle.
The speaker will place particular emphasis on the financial benefits of longer sow productive life: reducing the need for frequent replacement, making more efficient use of replacement stock, maintaining more stable reproductive performance and improving predictability of production results.
On 23 September 2026, the Congress will address pig health not only as a veterinary issue, but also as a foundation for the farm’s long-term efficiency.
